Research

The Centre for Market Design is hosted within the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne, a research intensive Department ranked in the top fifty Economics Research Departments in the World in the most recent Tilberg ranking.

The centre supports both fundamental and applied research. Our research objective is publication in top ranking generalist and leading field journals. We allocate around half of our budget to building research capacity and to supporting pure, undirected research in market design and its supporting disciplines, including economic theory, structural econometrics, and experimental economics. The main mechanism for building research capacity is through the appointment of outstanding young economists into tenure track positions within the Department. Since 2012 we have provided support for three such appointments.

We also support workshops, mini-schools, conferences and academic visitors.
